Creating 3D Worlds

The lesson covers the basics of planning for and carrying out 3D digitization of physical objects for libraries, museums, archives, and other cultural heritage organizations.

This lesson uses SketchUp to introduce participants to 3D modeling, particularly for the reconstruction of historical objects and spaces. The lesson plan includes two variations so that it can be taught as part of a semester-long course or as a one-shot workshop.

Students will learn how to apply the basics of decolonial theory to the walkthrough method in examining the colonial structures of knowledge and hierarchies of power within cross-reality (XR) and 3D applications, such as 3D assets and games.

This session covers an introduction to game design and making, and an overview of critical game making and how to use it in pedagogical settings.

The objective of this assignment is to create an augmented reality cookbook to describe the history of food, food preparation, and consumption.

Students will choose a monument on their campus and conduct research on its historical significance and how the monument upholds systems of power. Each student will rename one campus space and collectively create an Augmented Reality (AR) gallery of a new, reimagined campus.
